"What Working Families Need"
Hawaiʻi is becoming unaffordable for the people who live here.

"If we don’t act now, the people who keep Hawaiʻi running won’t be able to stay here."
Why Iʻm Running
Working families are being pushed out of Hawaiʻi.
"Working in the legislature, I have seen how delays, bureaucracy, and the lack of urgency hold Hawaii back.
I’m running to turn solutions into achievable action, not more talk."
My Priorities for Working Families
-
🏠 Housing That Working Families Can Actually Afford.
-
📚 Strong Public Schools & Infrastructure
-
🛡️ Safer Communities, Transparent Government, Real Accountability.

Janel has dedicated her career to standing up for working families, strengthening local communities, and ensuring Hawaiʻi remains affordable for the people who call it home. From advocating for economic fairness and public service to supporting small businesses, kūpuna, and working-class families, she is fighting for a future where local families can thrive, not just survive. We’re counting on grassroots supporters like you to help power this campaign and keep the voices of everyday people at the center of our government.

E Komo Mai (Welcome)
LOCAL. PROVEN. READY TO DELIVER.
Born and raised on Oʻahu, I grew up where hard work wasn’t a slogan; it was survival. My father, Ray, served as a Navy Reservist and worked in construction. My mother, Allie, worked at Star Market and now serves as a TSA agent. They taught me what service looks like: show up, work hard, don’t complain.
Makiki is home. At Kaiser High School, student government and AFJROTC taught me early that leadership is service, not status. But even here, I watched the same reality take hold: families doing everything right and still falling behind.
That’s why I’m running for State House District 26, Makiki, Punchbowl, Papakōlea, and Tantalus. Because too many families are facing rising rent, longer hours, and the fear that Hawaiʻi is slipping out of reach for the next generation.
I’ve seen neighbors pushed out not by choice, but by cost. That should never be our story.
I’m running because we need leadership with urgency, grounded in working-class experience, not politics as usual. Leadership that listens, acts, and doesn’t leave working families behind.
For more than two decades, I’ve shown up where it matters. From Civil Air Patrol missions during the Maui wildfires and Mauna Loa eruptions to search and rescue, mentoring cadets, and community work through the Honolulu AIDS Walk, Equality Hawaiʻi, and the Honolulu Pride Parade and Festival, my commitment has always been the same: serve people first.
I also earned my Associate Degree and Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix while continuing that service.
As a Committee Clerk in the State House Public Safety Committee, I saw how decisions are made and how often everyday voices get lost in the process. That’s stayed with me ever since.
This campaign is about one thing: making sure the people who keep Hawaiʻi running can actually afford to stay here.
I’m running to bring that focus to the Capitol. Grounded in Makiki, rooted in Oʻahu, and guided by a simple question: will our children still be able to call Hawaiʻi home?
Mahalo~

Hawaiʻi is becoming a place where working families can no longer afford to stay.
